Sierra Leone’s national police have destroyed more than 4,692 seized offensive weapons as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety across the country. The operation targeted arms confiscated from criminal elements to reduce violence and enhance community security.
The destroyed cache consisted of knives, swords, cutlasses, and axes collected through police operations. Each item represented a potential threat to citizens and law enforcement personnel in communities nationwide.
The destruction exercise took place at ODHAV Multi Industries in Songo, Port Loko district of the northwestern province. All weapons were melted down to eliminate any possibility of reuse or recirculation for criminal purposes.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Brima Kanneh, Regional Commander for Freetown-East, led the operation alongside divisional commanders, operational officers, and media representatives. The public demonstration underscored the police force’s commitment to removing dangerous weapons from circulation.
