Sierra Leone’s Acting Chief Justice, Nicholas Browne Marke, has reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to eliminating delays in justice delivery through recent reforms.
Speaking during a meeting with lawyers and paralegals, Justice Marke highlighted the Criminal Procedure Act of 2024, which replaces the 1965 Act and introduces measures to expedite legal proceedings.
Under the new law, parties must submit all case documents at the Magistrate Court before trials begin, ensuring clarity and reducing delays. Justice Marke expressed confidence that adherence to the Act will enable swift case resolutions, sometimes within days.
