Senegal’s National Assembly has opened its first extraordinary session, with a groundbreaking whistleblower protection bill high on the agenda.
The draft law, unveiled Monday, would allow whistleblowers to report misconduct internally and, if unresolved, disclose information publicly. If passed, Senegal would become the first French-speaking country in sub-Saharan Africa to establish such a legal framework.
Jimmy Kande, Francophone Director of the West African Whistleblower Protection Platform, welcomed the proposal, calling it a vital step toward strengthening democracy and accountability.
