Former Senegalese Minister of Mines, Sophie Gladima, is facing investigation over the alleged misappropriation of COVID-19 relief funds. On Wednesday, June 11, she appeared before the High Court of Justice’s investigating commission in Dakar.
Gladima is accused of embezzling nearly 200 million CFA francs from the COVID-19 Force fund, a scheme set up to respond to the pandemic’s economic fallout. She is one of five former ministers from ex-president Macky Sall’s administration being scrutinized in the case.
This probe marks a significant move in Senegal’s efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in public financial management, particularly in crisis response initiatives.
