As millions of Senegalese head to the polls, a significant portion of the youth opted to abstain from participating in Sunday’s legislative elections.
Speaking to WADR’s Augustine Kollie, some young voters cited disillusionment and a lack of faith in the current political system as their reasons for staying away from the ballot box. They expressed doubts that the elections would bring tangible changes to their everyday struggles.
On the other hand, young voters who turned out expressed high hopes for a newly elected assembly that would prioritize their concerns, including unemployment, education, and social reforms.
This division among the youth underscores the challenges facing political parties and leaders in engaging the younger generation and addressing their aspirations in Senegal’s evolving political landscape.
