A new World Bank report has brought attention to a critical issue in Senegal: over 2 million Senegalese citizens face the risk of falling into absolute poverty by 2030 if urgent action isn’t taken. The report stresses the importance of prioritizing climate financing and investment within the framework of Senegal’s “2050 Transformational Agenda” to avert a potential 4% GDP loss due to climate-related impacts.

At the report’s launch, Dr. Arame Tall, the World Bank’s senior environmental specialist, highlighted the need for substantial funding—estimated at $8 billion—to implement effective climate action measures. This funding is essential to build climate resilience and protect vulnerable populations from poverty-inducing challenges brought on by climate change.
