The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) has launched the Interoperable Instant Payment System Platform, known as PI-SPI, in Dakar, Senegal. The system became officially operational on September 30.
Developed under the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), the PI-Platform enables real-time financial transactions across all eight member countries.
The initiative is designed to boost financial inclusion and streamline cross-border payments by offering a 24-hour interconnected payment network.
Officials say the system marks a major step in advancing digital finance in the region.
