The United Nations Human Rights Commission expresses deep concern over the tense situation in Senegal after the suspension of the presidential election scheduled for 25 February.
Elizabeth Throsselle, Media and Communications Officer for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, conveyed through a media broadcast that they are troubled by reports of unnecessary and disproportionate use of force against protesters and constraints on civic space.
The commission calls upon the authorities to uphold Senegal’s longstanding tradition of democracy and respect for human rights.
