Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko is expected in Rabat on Monday, January 26, for high-level meetings within the framework of the Grand Joint Commission between Senegal and Morocco. The commission sessions, scheduled for January 26 and 27, will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and deepening diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The visit comes at a sensitive moment, following heightened tensions on social media after the Africa Cup of Nations final, where Senegal defeated Morocco 1–0 after extra time. The match has triggered strong reactions online and diplomatic attention.

Adding to the tension, eighteen Senegalese supporters are currently in pretrial detention in Morocco, facing prosecution over alleged acts of hooliganism linked to the final. The situation places Sonko’s visit within a broader context of diplomacy, public sentiment, and bilateral relations.
