Senegalese authorities have dismantled an illegal gold mining site in the southeastern Kédougou region, the military announced on Saturday. The operation, led by the Armed Forces’ Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIRPA), also resulted in the seizure of illegal timber.
Six gold miners were arrested, and several motorcycles were confiscated. This marks the second such crackdown in less than ten days, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized mining activities.
Earlier, authorities dismantled another illegal mining site along the Falémé River near the Malian border, seizing various equipment used for extraction.
