The Senegal River Development Organization (OMVS) has conducted a study on the water quality of the Falémé River, located in the East of Senegal and connecting the four countries of the organization.
The study, conducted with the support of the French Development Agency, reveals that the waters of the Falémé are toxic.
The member states of the OMVS point to illegal gold mining activities taking place in Kédougou, in the southeast of Senegal as being the reason for the pollution.
