In Senegal, families of victims killed during political protests between March 2021 and February 2024 are opposing former President Macky Sall’s bid to become Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The group argues that the former head of state should first answer for the violence that occurred during the demonstrations.
Meeting in Dakar on Thursday under the banner of the Collective of Families of the Martyrs, members publicly expressed their position during a press conference.
They say accountability for the victims must take priority as Sall pursues his international ambitions.
