President Macky Sall will be discussing with the media about his plans for the organization of a general election which was initially scheduled for February 25.
According to the presidency, the head of state will be questioned this evening by three Senegalese media, including the state broadcaster Radio Télévision du Senegal (RTS, public).
Senegal is going through an unprecedented political crisis since its independence from France in 1960 after the decision in early February by President Sall and the National Assembly to postpone the presidential election initially scheduled for February 25 until December 15.
The opposition called the postponement a constitutional coup, which provoked demonstrations that left at least four people dead.
Last week, the Constitutional Council vetoed this postponement and the retention of President Sall in his post until the installation of his successor.
Wednesday during the Council of Ministers, the Head of State requested that “all arrangements” be taken “for a good organization of the presidential election on a date which will be fixed very soon, after consultations with political actors, leaders of civil society and representatives of the vital forces of the Nation.
