In Senegal, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye visited the military sites recently returned by France yesterday. Accompanied by senior officers of the Senegalese army, the head of state visited the Ouakam, Bel Air, and Marine sites.
According to the presidency, the aim of this visit was to assess the state of the infrastructure now under the total control of the Senegalese armed forces.
As a reminder, at the request of the new authorities, France ended its military presence in Senegal after more than 60 years of presence. Last Thursday, the last French soldiers officially handed over their base to the Senegalese army.
This restitution marks the culmination of a bilateral dialogue that began several months ago, and opens a new era in cooperation between Dakar and Paris.
