Senegalese authorities have dealt a major blow to a transnational criminal network involved in the exploitation of minors.
In an operation across Dakar and Kaolack, police arrested 14 individuals accused of running a sophisticated paedophile ring with links to France. Investigators say the group had been active since 2017, allegedly forcing young boys into filmed sexual acts, many with men who were HIV-positive.
The network was reportedly directed by a French national arrested in northern France last April, who coordinated activities via money transfers.
All 14 Senegalese defendants appeared before a judge on Friday, facing charges including organised paedophilia, pimping, rape of minors, and intentional transmission of HIV. The operation is hailed as a major victory in the regional fight against child abuse and organised crime.
