Senegal has officially launched a national dialogue on political reform in Dakar this Wednesday, following a call by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The dialogue brings together political actors, civil society, and experts to examine flaws in the country’s political system. Key topics include the controversial sponsorship system for presidential candidates, the legal status of opposition parties, and proposals to reduce the number of political parties.
However, several opposition groups have boycotted the talks, raising concerns about inclusivity and consensus-building in the reform process.
