Senegal has joined the list of African countries covered by Starlink, the high-speed, low-latency satellite internet service developed by SpaceX.

The launch was announced by Elon Musk on X, saying Starlink is now available in Senegal, raising expectations of narrowing the country’s digital divide despite persistent gaps between urban and rural areas.

IT experts say Starlink’s entry could unlock significant opportunities for Senegal’s digital ecosystem, even as nearly 99 percent of households already have some form of digital equipment.

However, the rollout has raised concerns from the Sonatel Workers’ Union, which is questioning the licensing and regulatory framework governing Starlink’s operations in the country.
