Senegal’s Interior Ministry has issued an international arrest warrant for journalist Madiambal Diagne, a close ally of former President Macky Sall.
The decision comes after Diagne left the country despite being under a travel ban and facing an existing arrest warrant from the courts. Authorities say the move undermines judicial orders.
In response, the government dismissed the head of the Criminal Investigations Division and the Special Commissioner of Blaise Diagne International Airport for failing to enforce the ban.
Diagne, head of the Avenir Communication media group, is implicated in a major corruption case involving alleged kickbacks of 21 billion CFA francs, according to a report by Senegal’s financial intelligence unit, CENTIF.
