In Senegal, UNESCO is urging stronger backing for a new regional Action Plan designed to combat misinformation and enhance information integrity across West Africa and the Sahel. The call came during a conference held in Dakar on Thursday.
The event highlighted outcomes from UNESCO’s regional meeting on Information Integrity, held in Cape Verde in September, where representatives from across West Africa discussed coordinated strategies to counter disinformation.
UNESCO officials emphasized the need for collaborative approaches involving governments, media, civil society, and technology platforms to safeguard accurate and reliable information in the region.
Stakeholders attending the Dakar conference pledged to support the implementation of the Action Plan, stressing its importance for promoting social cohesion, democratic governance, and public trust.
