Touba, a region located east of the Senegalese capital, Dakar is heavily impacted by flooding.
The rains that fell in the religious city on Monday night caused the death of 2 people, several displacements and homes and businesses submerged.
Significant material damage was also recorded according to Senegal’s Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation who visited the region to assess the situation.
The specialized page “La Météo de Riad”, widely followed by the Senegalese public for its weather forecasts, confirmed that particularly intense rains were recorded between September 15 and 16, flooding several neighborhoods of the city. The page called for rapid action by the authorities to deal with this situation.
State media reported that the esplanade of the great mosque of Touba as well as the cemeteries and several neighborhoods were badly affected by the floods, plunging part of the holy city under water, increasing the difficulties for the population.
