The Senegalese Ministry of Infrastructure, Land, and Air Transport (MITTA) has extended the deadline for motorcycle owners to register their vehicles until March 13, 2025. This three-month extension, effective December 13, 2024, offers free registrations beginning the week of January 6, 2025.
The initiative aims to address unregistered motorcycles, enhance legal compliance, and strengthen road safety. MITTA, collaborating with the National Gendarmerie and Police, has emphasized that unregistered motorcycles found after the deadline will be impounded immediately.
This move is part of Senegal’s broader effort to transition to a more regulated and secure transport system. The ministry has encouraged motorcycle owners to take advantage of the free registration period, stressing the benefits of improved road safety and reduced accident risks.
MITTA also clarified that while registration requirements are temporarily relaxed, all other road inspection regulations remain strictly enforced.
