While the provisional results from Sunday’s elections in Senegal are being awaited, experts want the lessons learnt in the build up to the vote to reflect in the new government.
Recall, the election took place after much uncertainty following President Macky Sall’s unsuccessful effort to delay the February 25 vote until the end of the year — and then announcing a surprise amnesty for political prisoners.
The decision resulted in unrest that threatened democracy in one of West Africa’s most stable countries.
