Senegal has entered the global natural gas market with the launch of the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project. Developed in partnership with Mauritania’s hydrocarbon company, BP, and Kosmos Energy, this milestone positions Senegal as a significant player in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry.
The project underscores West Africa’s growing prominence in global energy production, with GTA expected to produce millions of tons of LNG annually. This achievement also signals economic transformation for Senegal, promising job creation, energy security, and substantial revenue for the country.
As the first gas flows from the GTA, Senegal’s leadership sees this as a critical step in achieving energy independence and boosting its economic standing on the global stage.
