There’s an update on the migrants’ tragic boat accident which by late Thursday suggests a jump in death toll from 24 to 26 people dead.

The mishap occurred off the coast of Saint Louis.

Irregular migration is still rife in Senegal and has been claiming victims for several years.

In response, the authorities recently introduced a national strategy to combat irregular migration.

Boubacar Seye of the Horizon Sans Frontières, a migrants’ rights NGO says this strategy has shown its limitations.
