Senegal is hosting a high-level gathering in Dakar to mark 25 years of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda, first adopted through UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in 2000.
The agenda calls for greater participation of women in peace processes, protection of women in conflict, and stronger gender integration in recovery efforts.
Civil society groups, women’s organizations, and regional stakeholders from across West Africa have joined the discussions to reflect on progress and gaps.
The event is spearheaded by the African Union, with support from UN Women and German cooperation agency GIZ.
