Health authorities in Senegal have confirmed the first case of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) in the capital, Dakar. The infection was detected in the Keur Massar district, according to the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene.
This marks a concerning new phase in the outbreak, which has been spreading across the country for several weeks. The mosquito-borne disease can also be transmitted through contact with infected animals.
As of October 15, 2025, Senegal has recorded 196 confirmed cases, including 21 deaths and 147 recoveries. The northern Saint-Louis region remains the hardest hit, with 179 cases—105 of them in the Richard-Toll district.
