Senegal has reinforced security along its border with Mali following recent terrorist activity in the region. Authorities have deployed three new gendarmerie units to the country’s eastern region to counter potential cross-border infiltration.

The move comes after an early July attack in western Mali by armed groups, including the al-Qaeda-affiliated Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM).

Officials say the increased security presence is aimed at protecting communities and deterring militant movements across the border.

The deployment underscores Senegal’s commitment to safeguarding its territory amid rising regional security threats.
