The candidacy file of Senegal’s primary opposition figure, Ousmane Sonko, has been submitted to the Constitutional Council.
Despite the refusal of the Directorate General of Elections to provide them with sponsorship forms, the incarcerated Senegalese opposition leader and his team managed to compile the necessary documentation.
Recently, the Dakar high court overturned Ousmane Sonko’s removal from the electoral roll by the Ministry of the Interior. In response, the State’s legal representatives have announced their intention to appeal this decision.
As the situation unfolds, Senegalese political analyst Mamadou Thior projects the potential public reaction should Ousmane Sonko be barred from contesting, especially given the contentious circumstances surrounding his exclusion from the electoral list.
