April remains significant for many reasons in Senegal,

It marks the country’s independence and a time for the handover of power between two elected presidents.

But for the current president Bassirou Diomaye, this month is a reminder of his arrest and subsequent imprisonment in 2023.

Exactly one year on, the newspaper l’Observateur in its Monday edition, looked at the conditions of his detention, how he managed his time and the seriousness with which he prepared for his presidency.
