The 2025 Global Terrorism Index has identified the Sahel as the region most affected by violent extremism worldwide.

Countries within the Alliance of Sahel States, including Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, rank among the most impacted on the African continent.

The report also highlights other heavily affected regions such as the Lake Chad Basin and the Horn of Africa.

Parts of Central Africa are likewise listed among areas facing persistent terrorist violence.
