In Côte d’Ivoire, the youth wing of the ruling RHDP party has formally launched a campaign to mobilize support for President Alassane Ouattara’s fourth candidacy in the upcoming presidential election.
The declaration follows a weekend rally in Abidjan led by former President Laurent Gbagbo, where the opposition called on supporters to resist Ouattara’s bid.
The joint opposition alliance, PPA-CI and PDCI, insists that Ouattara’s candidacy would effectively amount to a fourth mandate, a move they describe as unconstitutional.
With tensions rising between the ruling party and opposition forces, Côte d’Ivoire appears headed for a heated political showdown as the election season unfolds.
