There’s growing relief in Mali following the release of Alassane Abba, Secretary-General of the Convergence for the Development of Mali (CODEM), after nearly a month in detention.
Abba was arrested on May 8 by men claiming to be gendarmes, shortly after he criticized the dissolution of political parties.
His family and party members had voiced concern over his whereabouts and safety, as no official details were given during his detention.
His release marks a significant moment amid rising political tensions in the country.
