Hundreds of protesters filled the streets of Accra on Monday under the banner #StopGalamseyNow, demanding an immediate end to illegal mining. Known locally as galamsey, the practice has fueled environmental destruction and water pollution across Ghana.
The demonstration, led by the #FixTheCountry movement, followed a candlelight vigil at Revolution Square the night before. Organizers described the protest as a call to action against what they termed an “environmental and economic emergency.”
Chanting and holding placards, demonstrators urged government authorities to intensify efforts to save Ghana’s natural resources for future generations.
