Seychellois voters will go to the polls from this Saturday, September 27, to elect their President of the Republic and members of the National Assembly.

More than 77,000 voters, spread across 26 electoral districts, are expected to cast their ballots in this double election organized by the Seychelles Electoral Commission.

Eight political parties or alliances are fielding presidential candidates, including incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan, who is seeking a second term, highlighting his record and his slogan of ” unity for a stronger and more inclusive Seychelles .”

Among his main rivals are Patrick Herminie of United Seychelles and his running mate Sebastien Pillay.

The presidential election is held by direct universal suffrage and provides for a second round if no candidate obtains an absolute majority (more than 50% of the vote).

At the same time, the legislative elections renew the unicameral National Assembly for a five-year term. Its composition combines two methods of selection: 26 deputies elected by a single-member majority system and up to 10 proportional seats allocated to parties that have obtained at least 10% of the vote, at the rate of one seat per 10%.
