Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has called on West African leaders to unite against the growing wave of insecurity plaguing the region.
Speaking during celebrations marking Senegal’s 65th independence anniversary in Dakar on Friday, April 4, 2025, President Faye warned of the rising threat of terrorism and urged increased investment in military equipment and regional security cooperation.
The anniversary event, held under the theme “Towards Technological and Industrial Sovereignty of the Armed Forces”, drew thousands of citizens and high-profile guests, including heads of state from Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, and Nigeria’s Vice President.
Known for its vibrant blend of cultural displays and military parades, this year’s celebrations took a more somber tone as President Faye stressed the urgent need for collective strategies to preserve peace and stability across West Africa.
