Côte d’Ivoire’s PPA-CI party has condemned the arrest of several activists in the wake of recent violence in Yopougon, Abidjan. The arrests come just days ahead of a joint opposition march with the PDCI scheduled for August 9, 2025.
Executive President Prof. Sébastien Dano Djédjé claims the arrests are politically driven, aimed at silencing dissent and obstructing the planned protest. He denied party involvement in the August 1 violence that saw masked individuals attack public and police property.
While calling for accountability, the PPA-CI leader accused authorities of targeting members unfairly, including a sitting MP. He warned of rising political repression as the country approaches a pivotal presidential election.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful protest and called on the government to uphold constitutional freedoms and ensure due process for all detainees.
