The National Identification Authority’s proposal of using the identity card also known as the Ghana Card, in the compilation of the voters register has been strongly resisted by the opposition NDC.
Appearing before the assurance committee of parliament, the executive secretary of the NIA, Professor Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah said with over 18 million young people captured, the Electoral Commission can create a credible register on its data.
However, the opposition believes a majority of Ghanaians have not received their Ghana card hence disenfranchising many citizens from exercising their constitutional right.
From Accra, Christopher Atitso completes the story.
