More than 200 people are missing in northwest Pakistan after severe monsoon floods and landslides swept through several districts. Authorities report that over 300 people have been killed in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in recent days, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province recording the highest toll.
In Buner district alone, at least 209 people remain unaccounted for, while dozens more are missing in neighboring Shangla. Rescue operations have been slowed by destroyed roads, and some victims have already been buried without identification, as entire families were lost.
The monsoon rains, which provide much of South Asia’s annual rainfall, often trigger floods and landslides. But scientists warn that climate change is intensifying these disasters, making them more frequent and destructive.
Torrential rains have also battered Indian-administered Kashmir, where flash floods killed at least 60 people earlier this week.
