In Benin, the opposition Democrats party has appealed for calm and a peaceful continuation of the electoral process ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The call comes a day after the Constitutional Court definitively rejected the party’s presidential duo, effectively barring it from contesting the election.

In a statement, the Democrats cited internal divisions, leadership rivalries, and what they described as an increasingly hostile political climate as key challenges facing the opposition.
