Niger’s Head of State, Abdourahamane Tiani, has begun a working and friendship visit to Algeria, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between the two neighbours.

General Tiani arrived in Algiers on Sunday and was received with full honours by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The visit is his first to Algeria since assuming power in 2023.

The trip is aimed at normalising diplomatic relations and strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors, as both countries seek to consolidate ties amid shifting regional dynamics.

The visit underscores renewed efforts by Niamey and Algiers to reinforce collaboration and rebuild confidence at a critical moment for the Sahel region.
