In Niger , the ruling by the State Court on Friday has removed the immunity of deposed President Muhammed Bazoum who the Junta accuses of multiple crimes including Treason and advocating terrorism.
Under house arrest since the coup d’état of July 26, 2023, the former president has lost his presidential immunity. During the hearings at the State Court, the former president’s lawyers denounced justice under the orders of the CNSP.
The defence claims to have never had access to their client’s file. While Mohamed Bazoum refuses to resign and considers himself the legitimate president of Niger, he risks a long-term prison sentence if prosecuted by the military in power.
