Teachers in Niger are stepping up pressure on the ruling military authorities to address long-standing grievances affecting the education sector. On Wednesday, the Dynamic Movement, a coalition of several educational institutions, held a press briefing to voice their concerns.
The group is demanding swift action on issues including the recruitment of contract teachers into the civil service, the settlement of incident benefits for tenured staff, and payment of overdue allowances for contract workers.
According to the teachers, these demands have been ignored for too long, despite repeated engagements with authorities. They say the lack of progress is undermining morale and the quality of education across the country.
They are calling on the government to prioritize education reform and fulfill its commitments, warning that continued neglect may lead to further disruptions in the academic calendar.
