Nigerien public television, “Télé SAHEL,” has reported an ongoing investigation into the discovery of an arms cache in Niamey, occupied by European soldiers before their departure following the July 26, 2023 coup d’état.

Conducted by the research section of the Niamey gendarmerie, the investigation has uncovered discrepancies, revealing that the weapons introduced into Niger by Eucap Sahel do not align with those seized during searches, with some weapons unaccounted for.

Additionally, fifty-seven weapons belonging to French soldiers, destroyed before departure, were not on the list of regularly introduced weapons into Niger.

Investigators suspect this destruction as a cover-up of malfeasance. Anti-tank rockets and explosives found in the building occupied by French soldiers are considered unauthorized for introduction into Niger.
