Like other parts of the subregion grappling with effects of extreme weather conditions, northern Nigeria has in recent days recorded significant material damage, displacement, and deaths due to floods.
Located in the northeast, the Jigawa State Emergency Center has confirmed at least 60 deaths in flood-related accidents resulting from heavy rains since the start of August.
The region may have experienced drought months prior but is currently suffering from excess water flow.
