Nigeria’s House of Representatives has proposed the creation of 31 new states, bringing the total to 67.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu announced the proposal on Thursday, stating that the states are spread across all six geopolitical zones.
Among the proposed states are Okun, Confluence, Amana, Katagum, Savannah, New Kaduna, Lagoon, and Ibadan.
The proposal requires legislative approval and a referendum before implementation.
