The Nigerian Army has raided illegal mining sites in Abia State, arresting 17 suspects involved in the illicit activities.

This is in addition to seven other suspects arrested by the military on Friday last week, at the Isimmiri Waterside, in the same Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.

The illegal refinery site contains over 15 illicit refineries.

Speaking at the site during their operations, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General Hassan Dada, said over 5 million liters, of barrels of crude oil, are being siphoned which is not good for the nation’s economy, particularly for the environment.

According to Major General Hassan Dada, the Army is extending its operation in other areas to ensure within the Udoka joint operation area, any form of illegal bunkering and illegal refining is not allowed.
