The United Arab Emirates has lifted visa restrictions on Nigerian citizens, effective immediately, according to Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
The move comes after months of diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue, which was sparked by various disputes, including a revenue dispute that led to the suspension of Emirates Airline flights to Nigeria.
The lifting of the visa ban is seen as a significant development in the diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Nigerian government had assured its citizens that the ban would be lifted soon, following several meetings with UAE officials. The payment of $850 million in revenue, of which 98% has been settled, is also seen as a key factor in the resolution of the dispute.
This development is expected to boost trade and tourism between Nigeria and the UAE, and marks a significant step forward in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.
