The Nigerian military has announced the rescue of 137 school children abducted from two schools in Kaduna State by bandits.

The pupils were taken by gunmen on motorcycles earlier this month sparking local outrage and international condemnation.

Authorities say the pupils were all released unharmed days before the deadline for payment of ransom.
