Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army says it has repelled a major attack by insurgents on a military base in Borno State, neutralising at least 80 fighters, including senior commanders.

The assault targeted a military position in Mallam Fatori, near the Niger border, with attackers advancing on foot and deploying armed drones.

According to the army, troops had anticipated the нападение and responded with coordinated ground and air operations, successfully pushing back the insurgents.

Security forces also recovered several caches of weapons and explosives from the scene.

The incident comes amid a renewed surge in attacks by extremist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province in Nigeria’s northeast.

It follows Monday’s suicide bombings that killed at least 24 people and left more than 100 others injured.
