At the 2024 Social Norms Conference in Abuja, UNICEF made an urgent appeal for stronger child protection measures in Nigeria, focusing on the critical need to counter harmful social norms impacting children. UNICEF representative George Eki underscored the agency’s commitment to fostering social and behavioral change to reduce violence and exploitation among Nigerian youth.

Eki highlighted how globalization has amplified vulnerabilities for children and stressed that immediate, collective action is essential to create a safer environment. UNICEF’s call emphasizes the need for broad collaboration to protect Nigeria’s youngest citizens from societal risks.
